Throughout our life there are internal blockages that hinder the circulation of energy, so sometimes we feel out of harmony.
When our vital energy (Ki) is strong, we are physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually healthy. When our vital energy is at a very low level, we can become unbalanced or ill in various ways. One of the ways we can replenish our Life Force is by using Reiki.
Reiki is a Holistic technique since it harmonizes and unlocks all the planes of the human being, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It does not harm the body in any way and it does not create addiction or secondary or collateral effects since chemical substances or elements foreign to the body are not used, but only the life energy that is present in every living being.
To access Reiki it is not necessary to be sick, anyone who feels that “there is something else” and does not know what, and does not find much meaning in the things they do in their daily life, can find their reason for being and be in this life through Reiki.
Through this method, we make our body become healthier, thinking becomes calmer and we increase the joy of living.
Revival of the original Japanese Reiki
From the late 1990s, information on Japanese reiki began to appear from several sources.
Hiroshi Doi, in his book: A modern reiki method for healing, published in 1998, started to reveal some information about the Japanese reiki, but much of the knowledge he couldn’t share since he was not allowed to reveal any technical detail. Despite the limitations, many western reiki practitioners were enlightened by his book.
Frank Arjava Petter published: The original reiki handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui, in 1999, which was the translation of a small handbook edited by the Usui Gakkai in Japan.
The original Usui Reiki handbook had been passed down in the Gakkai, but not known to the general public until Petter revealed it in his book. In fact, this was the first genuine Japanese reiki literature to become public. The book disclosed some techniques of the traditional Usui Reiki system and its philosophy.
A definitive change occurred in 1999 when Chiyoko Yamaguchi and her son Tadao Yamaguchi started teaching Japanese Reiki under the name of Jikiden Reiki (Directly taught reiki). Chiyoko and her many relatives learned reiki directly from Chujiro Hayashi in the 1030s and had been using Reiki since that time.
The difference between Chiyoko and Hawayo Takata (both disciples from Hayashi) is that Takata mixed the technique with new-age techniques (western reiki), but Chiyoko kept the traditional knowledge.
By chance, Chiyoko discovered that western reiki was becoming popular in Japan and she resolved to teach Japanese reiki in order to give people access to the original reiki.
Jikiden reiki allows anyone to learn Japanese reiki, completely free from postwar and new-age western influence. It is the first time since the war that Japanese reiki has become fully available to the public.
If the western reiki mixed the traditional reiki with other cultural techniques (like the chakras from India) is good or bad, it is up to you to judge!
But the point that is important to highlight is that despite Takata’s mixed western reiki being better or worse than Japanese reiki, it should not be identified under the name of “traditional Usui reiki”, since it is not following the true traditions of Usui Sensei.
If Takata implemented the $10.000 Dai ko myo chakra attunement to the reiki practice is good or not, we must clarify that this attunement is not part of the traditional Japanese Reiki and that we should have more respect for the Usui Sensei original technique.
